Oots! Lunchbox Giveaway!
Monday, July 26, 2010
Encouraging our kids to make healthy food choices is so important. We can't always count on school lunches to meet our kids' nutritional needs, so choosing to pack a lunch is a great way to teach them about a healthy diet. The eating habits our children pick up when they are young will help them maintain a healthy lifestyle when they are adults.

The Oots! Lunchbox is a new take on an American Classic... and it's eco-friendly too! These cool, contemporary lunch boxes come with their own containers. Cleaning is easy and the use of space is optimal. The upright design prevents food from being tossed around. Re-using the containers eliminates the use of disposable plastic bags, and is perfect for your healthy homemade lunches.

All materials used are food safe and kid-friendly: made of BPA-free and phthalate-free polypropylene plastic, and safety tested for lead. The Lunchbox and containers are dishwasher safe and the containers can be used in a microwave.
The Lunchbox comes in three different color combinations: Blue, Green and Orange.

To help get ready for back to school, we think it would be fun (and useful!) to come up with a list of healthy lunch ideas that aMuse Families can refer to when packing lunches.
Leave a comment about a healthy lunch favorite in your family to win your own Oots! Lunchbox!
We plan to compile all the entries into a master list of healthy lunch options so you can refer back whenever your ideas run dry. You are welcome to leave as many ideas as you have, but each commenter will only be entered once for this awesome giveway! We will annouce winners on August 30th! Good luck!

My picky son LOVES guacamole, so sometimes for lunch I will mash up an avocado, stir in a little salsa, add some fresh cilantro, and give a squeeze of fresh lime juice. He eats it with mulitgrain chips from Food Should Taste Good. Served with a side of fresh fruit and maybe a string cheese. Always a hit in our house!
I was looking for a better alternative for packing lunches for my kids. This looks like it fits the bill.
Guacamole is one of my favorite lunch choices too. Sounds delicious, Jenn!
hummus with veggies!
we like this recipe: http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=1853926 but with a little extra garlic, a little extra oil and some ground cumin. we use eden brand if we use cans because of the bpa-free thing.
also - i'm not big on disney stuff, but this recipe is adorable! it shows you how to make little mice out of strawberries. so cute!
whoops - forgot the URL for the strawberrry mice: http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/strawberry-mice-687541/
Liz, you ALWAYS have the best recipes! Thanks for you ideas! Love them.
I make Jasper octopus shaped tofu frankfurters. You cut the franks in half and cut the stem in an 'x' shape. Then I take black seasame seeds and make cute eyes. I also make neat shapes with cheese and with carrots. You can make a cute little scene using broccoli as trees, and flower shaped cheese.
We make rollups all the time. Use tortillas and either turkey and cheese or PB&J. It is so easy for an "on-the go" lunch and we love them!
Brilliant! Love all these twists on healthy food to keep lunches interesting.
can I still comment if I have the child who we are lucky if he finishes his cheese, crackers and red apples for lunch?
A mix of whole grain pasta, cooked peas, and a little ranch dressing. He loves it :)
Well, lately my healthy lunch issue happens at breakfast and lunch - convincing Joshua that he cannont have cookies til he has something healthy. Lately we are very cheesy - cheese sticks and quesadillas. Also peanut butter smeared on graham crackers - this one requires milk :)
I make zucchini muffins with that have applesauce, flax seeds, and wheat germ, and a few chocolate chips. My little girl thinks she is getting a treat while I am sneaking fruit and vegetables into her diet. She is also a big fan of cheese sticks.
Carrots and Hummus
This is the best option for great school lunch this year. I hope we win one!!!!!!!!
Fresh baked bagels w/ salmon, cream cheese, and capers. Maybe lettuce and tomato too.
wow, great suggestions. our daughter starts school for the first time this fall and we certainly will be using some of the posted ideas!
Great lunchbox. Looking forward to the start of school...especially with a new lunchbox.
Love the look of this lunchbox and that it's BPA free. May be in to buy one if we don't win it!
Toasted nori is a fave - figure the dark green balances the salt and oil. They also like tsatsiki as a dip. Yogurt, garlic, cucumber.
